Getting an Audience For Your Podcast

Public radio stations are often open to audio shows. Just contact the General Manager or the Program Director and have six to ten shows available (on CD). If you can convince them you can do shows on a regular basis and you can speak well, you might be on the radio.

From there, you can get a link on their website or even have the station archive a few shows on the website. National Public Radio keeps a directory of such shows at the npr.org site:
http://www.npr.org/rss/podcast/podcast_directory.php

Another easier method is to be listed on a podcast directory. Some of the podcast directories have expired. Some examples of discontinued podcast directories:
Podcast Zoom
Yahoo! Podcasts
SHOUTcast Wire
PodCatch
iPodderx
IdiotVox
PodcastShuffle
Odeo
Feedzie
Loomia

To avoid being on the next podcast directory to expire, check the site to see if they have some of the bad habits that caused others to fail.

  • Does the site only have listings from several months -- or years-- back?
  • Are the listings sorted by categories rather than having everything together?
  • Does anyone remove a listing if it is the wrong category or do they leave them alone?

A few sites only list podcasts specific to a theme. iBizRadio lists podcasts specific to business podcast feeds at:
http://ibizradio.com

Recap has podcast channels on educational matters at:
